Birthday spinner card

Whew...finally back..funny how all my posts start that way! But I am so hard pressed for time right now..it's difficult to find time to sit down and write a post.. let alone make a card..
Any way..did find time to do both today..well the card was made in advance and is already on its way to the recipient, and now the blog post follows :).
This was a card for my nephew who just turned 3. He is in India, and as we could not make it for his birthday I thought of sending him a card to make up for our absence. I know..not much but atleast the card was handmade with love :) . Hopefully he likes it.
To make it a bit special, I decided to try my hand at making a spinner card.. After watching so many spinner card videos, I was pretty sure I could make one fairly quick.. Haha how wrong was I !! No such thing as quick in card making..atleast in my world..
Also one thing to note for spinners is that you need mirror image stamps to make one, so that the back and front align nicely. Well my limited stash did not have one..but I really wanted to make a spinner card so I made do with what I had. I had gotten a cupcake stamp set with matching dies at a local craft fair and decided to use that as my spinner image. The good thing about choosing this image was that even though the back and front images were not lining up well when put back to back, it was hardly noticeable. So I stamped the image twice, coloured it using my Finecolour markers (which was their test run by the way) and die cut it with the matching die. Then cut a window in front of my card base, put the spinner together and finished the card by stamping the birthday sentiment using alphabet stamps. The pattern paper I used was from a paper pad I found at my local grocery.. Yes you read it right grocery store :) and got a good deal on that too!

Here is the final card

PS: love the Finecolour markers, but I am going to need a lot of practice to get decent results..

My first tic-tac-toe challenge

Hello.. Been a while since I posted something and that's not good...considering that's how my first couple of blogs got neglected.. Thankfully I got occupied with this cool challenge from Stamping Smiles Designs.
This was my first tic-tac-toe challenge..and what fun it was.. As the name suggests, there is a tic-tac-toe board filled with different options and you have to choose 3 of them either down, across or diagonal. I went with the diagonal option of thank you, embossing and twine.

I embossed some white cardstock using the Swiss dots folder. But instead of embossing the whole panel, I just embossed opposite corners. Then using a flowers stencil, some makeup sponges(as I do not yet have the sponge daubers) and few inks from Memento and Kaisercraft I created my card panel.  To make the embossing stand out further I lightly went over it with the yellow and green inks. Finally I stamped my sentiment on the same white cardstock and cut it into a strip with a ribbon end to make a banner.
To make the sentiment stand out a bit more from the background, I took another piece of white cardstock slightly longer than the sentiment and to make it match my card base and rest of the panel I sponged some purple and pink ink on the edge. I then adhered it to my sentiment at an angle and then adhered the whole thing on card panel using some foam tape. To finish up I tied a bow using some lavender twine just below the sentiment. I adhered the card panel on some purple cardstock leaving a slight border on the left. That finished up my card..I am planning on sending it to a new crafty friend I made on IG..
Also this is my entry for the Stamping Smiles Design tic-tac-toe challenge. It not just any challenge but they are also looking for DT members..ohh fingers crossed! :)

Share handmade kindness

So so very late in posting this (though I did post the cards well in time :)) but based on one of my previous post you must know I am participating in Jennifer McGuire's #sharehandmadekindness challenge and even have sent out couple of cards out to my family. But on further thought I felt just participating for the sake of the weekly challenges was not during enough justice to the cause and Jennifer's drive behind it. I did want to help out more to the cause and so when I heard (from one of my new crafty friend on IG) that Caring Hearts Drive was collecting cards from Australia as well.. Well I was estatic..here was a way I could definitely help out..use my papercrafting hobby and make someone happy this holiday season.
So I dug into my supplies and created a couple of quick 5 min cards.
Here they are..

I kept the cards pretty simple as I did not have much time to do them and neither did I have a lot many supplies. For one card, I used a gift stamp and coloured it using my color pencils and for the other I made quick diy Christmas trees that I found on Pinterest. The sentiment on both cards was created using the Kaisercraft alphabet stamps.
I wanted to do more but with couple of kids around there is only so much crafting one can do. But hopefully I can crank out some more next year now that I know CCH collects cards from here as well..just need to get started a bit early.
Although my contribution is not much, what makes me happy is that it will bring a simle to atleast one person's face. And isn't that how kindness spreads really..one to many! :)
Happy holiday to all!

Thanks for stopping by!

Festival season..

Diwali time!! Yes the Festival of Lights is here...Diwali is one of the biggest festival celebrated in India..which is where I come from btw.. :)
For quite a while now I have been staying overseas and have been missing out on the Diwali fun..lots of sweets, crackers, friends and family gatherings, exchanging gifts, twinkling diyas (little lamps), colorful rangolis..
Being so far from family I decided to use my papercrafting love to crank out some handmade Diwali cards to send to them..let them know I'm always thinking of them and missing them..

I kept things very simple, being time constrained. The main feature on both cards is the Diwali diya (lamp). Since I did not have a stamp for required image, I free handed some on watercolour paper and  colored them using my Mont Marte watercolour pencils.

For one card I created a stamped diya background. Again as I did not have required stamp, it was time for some diy.. So took out my foam pad and cut a diya shape and stuck it on an acrylic block using some double-sided tape and use that as a temporary stamp..what fun! I also trimmed the edge using my fun shaped sissors. Then just cut some vellum paper and foam taped the diya on that..a few gems and alphabets stamps from Kaisercraft finished my sentiment and card 1..

For the second card.. Just embossed the background using dots embossing folder I picked up at a recent craft fair..cut up some more of the red pattern paper and again foam taped the diya on that. I did try to heat emboss the sentiment on the pattern paper but it did not stand up to the heat gun.. So I dug up some alphabet stickers and spelled out my sentiment. Some sparkly sequins finished the job..

Now out to the post office to mail these out..
Oh forgot to add.. I am participating in Jennifer McGuire's #sharehandmadekindness challenge. There will be a new challenge each with with great prizes. Head on over to Jennifer's blog for more details. This week it's friends and family and my Diwali cards fit the bill perfectly. So this is my entry for week 1 of #sharehandmadekindness challenge..

The first one..

Hello and welcome.. Finally got some time to create a blog and now need some more to keep at it :)
Hi, I am Tej.. Currently a SAHM and a newbie craftie.. I got hooked onto papercrafting last year and even hastily purchased my one and only fancy crafting tool..my Cuttlebug.. But never got a chance to use it properly till now.. Well you can say some little things got me all tied up :) my boys.. Now that they are at a stage where they do take 1/2 hour naps I am left with all this free time on my hands..yes!! A whole 1/2 hour! Enough time to get my cuttlebug out, get all sorted, select my paper, inks, stamps and ...and that's it..someone is up! Haha.. But still trying hard and not giving up on my papercrafting love..
Thanks for stopping by..
